09 Feb With regard to applying the requirement to employ 5 Turkish employees for every foreign employee in foreign media institutions, especially Arab ones.
The Media is a strong force for the Governments; there is no doubt that will be arising in the strength and the performance of the Governments by taking advantage from this strength.
We have an opportunity to obtain this power internationally, especially in Arab countries. As many journalists, media workers, writers and intellectuals have migrated to Turkey because of the war or political pressures in their country, however the Arab media workers cannot be used in a viral way because of the legal obligation. They face difficulties with regard to the work permit, press card, and other matters.
Regarding foreign (Arab) media professionals, we offer the following suggestions:
-
In the short term: granting them an exception by not applying the law to employ 5 Turkish employees for every foreign employee.
-
In the long term: establishing media center similar to the free zone in an area such as Ataturk Airport, which has been closed, and granting some exceptions and incentives to that region, accompanied by strict control by the state. This will greatly benefit our country.
